Residenzsharing: Emmelien Chemouny – EXTENDED GAPS
A solo, in honor of the gaps in our lives. Gaps are untold stories, unwritten perspectives, unshown faces. They are often skipped and we are trained to oversee them; although this is exactly the place where the importance holds on.
I think of cinema, where the black image between the scenes is actually the space where narration happens. Similar in literature, where the unchosen words carry the most powerful message.
Gaps are a necessary opportunity for a breath, for digestion.
There is something beautiful about the focus on what’s in between instead of on the 1st and 2nd image. With this different kind of dramaturgical approach, I want to investigate essencing the gaps in theatrical and social means as a performance. Working with timing and the general play of priority of that which is presented on stage. How I use space and everything inside of it- fabrics, liquids, clothes combined into costumes, the people and their gaze in the space. With this research what it means to transition inside of choreography, embodying the interval. I work on exploring different ways where taking the second choice as the first choice. Navigating in dance and looking for creases and links.
